nothing new under the sun

"And so the good George Herbert said, on entering upon the duties of his parish: "Above all, I will be sure to live well, because the virtuous life of a clergyman is the most powerful eloquence, to persuade all who see it to reverence and love and at least to desire to live like him.  And this I will do," he added, "because I know we live in an age that hath more need of good examples than precepts."  It was a fine saying of the same good priest, when reproached with doing an act of kindness to a poor man, considered beneath the dignity of his office,-t

TABLE SALE

We enjoyed a pleasantly successful day yesterday with a great surge of visitors at the start, leading on to a constant stream of visitors as time passed. The weather stayed OK and special buses put on brought thousands of people from all over the world (well maybe one day). All tables groaned under the weight of articles ready for sale.

table sale

"I love it when a plan comes together". So said Hannibal on the A Team. Well the same goes for the latest Court Hey table sale - a lovely day, lots of stalls and plenty of punters, many thanks indeed to all who helped make this another successful event, especially those who helped set up the hall, tidy it away afterwards and those who kept us all supplied with refreshments. NEXT TABLE SALE WILL BE SEPTEMBER, hopefully we can establish the last Saturday of the month as the table sale date through the following months (maybe Christmas will require a shift in date).

Table Sale (was car boot)

Next table sale is on 26 June, 10am -12pm, admission still 20p, refreshments available.  Have decided to revamp the idea of it being a "car boot" - technically it isn't a car boot sale, is it? Quite a number of stallholders have suggested to me it might be better to describe it as an indoor table sale, so hope this momentous change encourages passers by to stop when they don't see loads of cars and sellers in the car park.  After the summer break, we hope to put the sale on a more regular basis, probably monthly (as it was in Harry Wright's day).

Garden update

Work ongoing with gardens, hope to put in  some tomato plants, if I get the time, got a few tubs planted up with sweet peas and marigolds as the spring bulbs were past it.  Still a slog to get the weeds out but every foot or so cleared is another step forward.  Started to paint the toilets last week with my mate Mike, a bit bright perhaps compared to what was there before but it'll settle down.  Won't get much more done for a week or two as I'm away this weekend and next Saturday.  Lots of work to do but it's good fun and nice to serve God in

Car Boot Sale Update

We had an enjoyable and profitable sale last Saturday and I would like to thank everyone involved in making these sales the fine community events they are; from set up to providing the teas, all duties are important and appreciated. We look forward to having another one in June or July before the schools break up for summer. We are always on the hunt for more assistance so if you'd like to help (perhaps to run a stall or help put out posters etc), please see either Julie Hodson or myself. Many thanks, Gavin.
